Vinca Major
Vinca major (greater periwinkle) is a vigorous, evergreen ground-cover with trailing stems and glossy green leaves, producing violet-blue flowers in spring. Reliable and low-maintenance for Irish gardens, it thrives in moderately fertile, well-drained soil, doing best in partial shade and coping with sun in cooler sites. Ideal for carpeting under shrubs and trees, along banks and slopes, and for suppressing weeds; trim after flowering to control spread and keep growth neat.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
