Prunus d. Opal
Prunus domestica 'Opal' is a widely grown dessert plum valued for its early spring display of white blossom, followed by edible fruits in season. For best results in Ireland, plant in a sunny, warm and sheltered spot with fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. A deciduous tree with green foliage, it is fully hardy and benefits from summer pruning to maintain shape and minimise the risk of silver leaf disease.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
