Ilex aquifolium 'Aureomarginata,' commonly known as Golden Variegated Holly, is a stunning evergreen shrub known for its attractive foliage.

Height/Spread: Ilex AQ. Aureomarginata typically reaches a height of 6-10 feet (1.8-3 meters) with a spread of 4-8 feet (1.2-2.4 meters), making it an excellent choice for providing structure and privacy in Irish gardens.

Position: This holly variety thrives in a position with partial to full sun exposure, making it suitable for the Irish climate. It is adaptable and can tolerate a range of soil conditions, including coastal areas.

Soil: Ilex AQ. Aureomarginata prefers well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil. In the Irish climate, it is recommended to amend the soil with organic matter and ensure proper drainage for optimal growth.

Flowering Season: While the primary appeal of Golden Variegated Holly lies in its foliage, it also produces inconspicuous flowers in spring. These flowers give way to small, bright red berries in autumn, adding seasonal interest to the garden.

Uses: Ilex AQ. Aureomarginata serves various purposes in Irish gardens. It is commonly used as a hedge plant, providing year-round privacy and an attractive boundary. Its golden-variegated leaves add visual interest and a pop of color to garden beds, borders, and containers. Additionally, the holly's berries are a valuable food source for wildlife during the winter months.
