Hakonechola macra Aureola

Hakonechola macra Aureola is a graceful Japanese forest grass forming low, arching clumps of slender leaves boldly striped yellow with green, ideal for brightening shaded borders. It thrives in partial to full shade in moisture-retentive, humus-rich but well-drained soil, and is fully hardy in Ireland. Slow to establish, it forms neat mounds around 30–60cm, perfect for soft edging, underplanting shrubs and trees, woodland-style or Asian-inspired schemes, and shaded containers. Cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring to make way for fresh new growth.

We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). Position: Partial shade to shade
