Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote,' commonly known as Hidcote Lavender, is a popular aromatic herb that thrives in the Irish climate. It is cherished for its fragrant flowers and compact growth habit, making it a sought-after choice among gardeners in Ireland.

Height/Spread: Hidcote Lavender typically grows to a height of 1-2 feet (30-60 centimeters) with a similar spread, making it suitable for small gardens, containers, and borders in the Irish climate.

Position: This variety of lavender flourishes in full sun, making it ideal for the relatively mild and temperate climate of Ireland. It requires a sunny position that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Soil: Hidcote Lavender prefers well-drained soil with moderate fertility. It can tolerate various soil types, including sandy or loamy soil, but it is crucial to ensure good drainage to prevent waterlogged conditions. In the Irish climate, it is beneficial to grow lavender in raised beds or improve soil drainage to optimize its growth.

Flowering Season: Hidcote Lavender delights with its vibrant purple flowers that bloom from late spring through summer. Its aromatic blooms not only add beauty to the garden but also attract pollinators, making it an excellent choice for supporting local wildlife.

Uses: Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote' serves multiple purposes in Irish gardens. It is widely cultivated for its fragrant flowers and aromatic foliage, often used in potpourri, sachets, or dried flower arrangements. Additionally, it is a lovely addition to herb gardens, rock gardens, and cottage-style landscapes. Its compact size and attractive flowers make it a favorite for borders, edging pathways, or planting en masse to create stunning purple displays.
