Corokia virgata, commonly known as Wire Netting Bush, is an intriguing evergreen shrub with distinctive wiry branches and small, glossy leaves. It is a versatile plant that thrives in the Irish climate, making it a popular choice among gardeners in the region.

Height/Spread: Corokia virgata typically reaches a height of 6-10 feet (180-300 centimeters) with a spread of 3-5 feet (90-150 centimeters). Its upright and slightly arching growth habit adds interest and structure to garden landscapes in the Irish climate.

Position: This shrub thrives in a variety of positions, from full sun to partial shade. It is well-suited for the Irish climate and can tolerate coastal conditions, making it a suitable choice for gardens located near the sea. It can also withstand windy conditions, making it versatile for various garden settings.

Soil: Corokia virgata is adaptable to different soil types, including well-draining soils, clay, or loam. It prefers soil that is fertile and moist but can tolerate drier conditions once established. This adaptability makes it suitable for a range of soil compositions found in Irish gardens.

Flowering Season: The Wire Netting Bush produces small, star-shaped yellow flowers in late spring to early summer. While the flowers are relatively inconspicuous, they are followed by small, colorful berries that transition from green to orange or red, adding visual interest to the shrub.

Uses: Corokia virgata has multiple uses in Irish gardens. It can be employed as a hedge or screen, providing privacy and adding texture to outdoor spaces. Its unique branching pattern and small leaves make it an attractive choice for topiary or formal garden designs. Additionally, it can be used as a specimen plant or incorporated into mixed borders to provide year-round structure and visual appeal.
