Astelia chathamica 'Silver Shadow' is a hardy, clump-forming perennial with long, arching, silver sword-like leaves drooping at the tips. It produces yellow flowers in spring, from female plants followed by orange berries in summer. However it rarely produces flowers when planted in Ireland. It is the foliage that is spectacular. 'Silver Shadow' is the best variety for colour with its brilliant silver foliage.
