Ajuga 'Black Scallop'
Ajuga 'Black Scallop' is a low, mat-forming, semi-evergreen perennial valued for its scalloped, very dark purple foliage and short spikes of rich blue flowers in late spring to early summer. Ideal as a weed-suppressing ground cover in Irish gardens, it suits the front of borders, edging and rock garden settings, and for underplanting in light shade. Grow in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil; it will tolerate clay or lighter soils that do not dry out. Flowers are attractive to pollinators.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
