PANICUM virg. Sangria

An upright, clump-forming switchgrass, Panicum virgatum ‘Sangria’ brings fine texture and strong vertical lines to sunny borders. Narrow green leaves make a tidy tuft, topped in late summer by airy, purplish flower panicles that persist into autumn and provide long-lasting structure. Reliable and low-maintenance, it suits prairie-style and mixed plantings, thriving in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun; leave the stems over winter for interest and cut back in early spring. Typically reaches around 1–1.5m tall at maturity.
