Hydrangea macr. Red
Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Red’ is a medium-sized, deciduous hydrangea valued for its showy summer blooms and lush green foliage. Best grown in Ireland in a position with sun or light shade and moisture-retentive, fertile, well‑drained soil, it appreciates shelter from cold, drying winds. Flower colour in H. macrophylla varies with soil conditions: blooms tend to be pink to red on neutral to alkaline soils, and can take on more purple-blue tones on acidic soils. Ideal for mixed borders and large containers, where consistent moisture and organic mulch help maintain peak performance and vibrant colour through summer into early autumn.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
