Dicentra spec. Valentine
A clump-forming, herbaceous perennial prized for its arching sprays of heart-shaped, deep red flowers in spring, held above fresh young foliage that often emerges flushed red before turning green. Best in partial shade and in fertile, humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil; protect from drying out in summer and avoid hot, exposed sites. Excellent in shaded borders and cottage-style plantings, and suitable for cutting. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
