Aubrieta 'Dr. Mules Variegata'
Aubrieta ‘Dr. Mules Variegata’ is a low, mat-forming evergreen perennial for sunny, well-drained spots, ideal for rock gardens, dry walls, edging and containers. Its neat, variegated foliage forms tight cushions that spill attractively over stones, and in spring it covers itself with masses of small purple flowers, providing early colour and nectar for pollinators. Best flowering is in full sun, though it will cope with light shade; plant in moderately fertile, well-drained, preferably neutral to alkaline soil (light, sandy or chalky works well). Trim lightly after flowering to keep compact. Expect around 10 cm in height and 30–45 cm spread in time; fully hardy across Ireland with a moderate growth rate.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
