Helleborus h. Viv Maeva
A reliable, semi-evergreen hellebore for Irish gardens, Helleborus h. Viv Maeva thrives in light shade, bringing valuable late-winter to spring colour with its long-lasting, cup-shaped blooms held above leathery, divided foliage. Ideal for woodland-style plantings and the front of partially shaded borders, it prefers a fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Plant with added leafmould or compost, keep evenly moist in the growing season, and avoid waterlogging. For best display and hygiene, remove the oldest leaves in late winter before the new flowers emerge, and mulch annually to maintain soil moisture and fertility.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
