Camellia jap. Black Lace
Camellia japonica ‘Black Lace’ is an evergreen camellia prized for its glossy dark green foliage and richly coloured red flowers in early to mid spring. Grow in partial shade or bright, dappled light and avoid early morning sun to protect blooms. Plant in acidic (ericaceous), humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, and provide shelter from cold, drying winds. A moderate grower, it makes a refined specimen for shaded borders, woodland-style plantings or large containers filled with ericaceous compost; prune lightly after flowering. Fully hardy in most UK gardens.
