Eucalyptus Gunnii, commonly known as Cider Gum, is an evergreen tree that thrives in the Irish climate. It is highly valued for its attractive foliage, unique bark, and various practical uses.

Height/Spread: Eucalyptus Gunnii can reach an impressive height of 30-40 feet (9-12 meters) with a spread of 10-20 feet (3-6 meters), making it a substantial and visually striking tree for Irish landscapes.

Position: This eucalyptus species prefers a sunny and sheltered position in the Irish climate. It can tolerate a wide range of soil types but thrives in well-draining soil that is moderately fertile. It is crucial to plant it in a location protected from strong winds, especially in exposed areas.

Soil: Eucalyptus Gunnii adapts well to various soil conditions in the Irish climate, including loam, sandy, or clay soils. However, it thrives best in well-draining soil that is slightly acidic to neutral in pH. Adding organic matter during planting can enhance soil fertility and moisture retention.

Flowering Season: While Eucalyptus Gunnii is primarily valued for its foliage, it produces small, inconspicuous white flowers in late summer. These flowers attract bees and other pollinators, adding ecological value to the landscape.

Uses: Eucalyptus Gunnii has multiple uses in the Irish climate. Its dense foliage and attractive blue-green leaves make it an excellent choice for ornamental purposes, providing year-round interest in gardens and landscapes. It can also be cultivated for its aromatic leaves, which are often used in floral arrangements and potpourri. Additionally, Eucalyptus Gunnii has commercial applications, such as timber production, firewood, and as a windbreak or shelterbelt tree in agricultural settings.
