Pyrus c. Doyenne du Comice
Pyrus communis ‘Doyenné du Comice’ is a renowned late dessert pear noted for its richly flavoured, juicy fruit. In Ireland it performs best in a warm, sunny, sheltered site to aid blossom protection and reliable ripening. Spring blossom is white, and the tree is deciduous with green leaves. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent moisture through the growing season. This cultivar is not self-fertile and requires a compatible pear that flowers at a similar time for pollination. Harvest in autumn; fruits are typically finished ripening indoors for best texture and flavour. Fully hardy.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
