Malus d. Jonagold
Malus domestica 'Jonagold' is a dessert apple producing large fruit with a red flush over yellow skin and a rich, honeyed, aromatic flavour that is crisp and juicy. Blossom appears in spring, typically white with pink tints, and fruit is generally ready to pick in October in Ireland. Grow in full sun in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil; a sheltered site helps protect blossom and improves fruit set. This cultivar is triploid and needs two compatible pollinators nearby; it will not act as a pollinator for other apples.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
