APPLE GALA
Malus domestica 'Gala' is a popular dessert apple prized for its sweet, aromatic flavour and red-striped skin. A deciduous tree, it bears attractive white blossom in spring, followed by quality eating apples in late season. Grow in full sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil for best cropping. Ultimate size depends on rootstock and training, but trees can reach over 5m if left untrained; prune and train to manage size and shape. Spring blossom is valuable for pollinators, and the tree suits family gardens, small orchards and traditional cottage-style planting.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
