Pinus mugo ‘Wintergold’ is a compact, slow-growing dwarf mountain pine prized for its vivid winter colour: dense needle foliage turns rich golden-yellow in the colder months, returning to green in summer. Forming a neat mound and requiring little maintenance, it’s ideal for rock gardens, gravel gardens and containers, bringing valuable winter interest. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil (sandy or loamy, preferably neutral to acidic) and avoid waterlogging. Eventually reaches around 1–1.5 m in height and spread; fully hardy (RHS H7).
