ACACIA RETIONOIDES
Acacia retinodes (swamp wattle) is an evergreen large shrub or small tree grown for its narrow, grey-green foliage and small, globose yellow flower heads that can appear for much of the year, often with main flushes in the warmer months. In Ireland it does best in full sun and a warm, sheltered position, ideally against a sunny wall or in a mild, coastal or urban garden. Provide a moist but well-drained, acid to neutral soil. In favourable conditions it can reach around 6–8m tall and 3–4m wide over time. This long-flowering acacia brings reliable colour and fine texture, but in colder areas it may need protection from frost and cold winds.
To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
