Caltha palustris 'Polypetala,' commonly known as the giant marsh marigold, is a striking herbaceous perennial that adds a vibrant burst of color to wetland areas and water features. With its large, buttercup-like yellow flowers and lush green foliage, it creates a captivating spectacle in Irish gardens, especially those with damp or boggy conditions.

Height/Spread: 'Polypetala' can reach an impressive height of about 60-90 cm (24-35 inches) with a similar spread, forming dense clumps of lush vegetation.

Position: This marsh marigold thrives in moist to wet soil conditions and is often found along the edges of ponds, streams, and marshy areas. In the Irish climate, it enjoys full to partial sunlight, particularly in regions with mild temperatures and adequate rainfall.

Soil: 'Polypetala' prefers acidic to neutral, humus-rich soil. It is well-adapted to waterlogged conditions and can tolerate clayey or loamy soils that retain moisture. In Irish gardens, it can be successfully grown in areas with consistent moisture and good drainage.

Flowering Season: The giant marsh marigold is a spring-flowering plant, typically blooming from late March to early May in the Irish climate. During this period, it produces abundant bright yellow flowers that stand out against its dark green leaves.

Uses: 'Polypetala' is valued not only for its vibrant floral display but also for its ability to provide habitat and sustenance to wildlife, including insects and birds. In Irish gardens and wetland restoration projects, it serves as an attractive and ecologically valuable addition, supporting biodiversity and adding interest to waterlogged areas.

Specify in the Irish climate: In the Irish climate, Caltha palustris 'Polypetala' can be an ideal choice for gardeners looking to introduce a splash of early-season color to damp or marshy spots.
