The elder 'Gerda' or 'Black Beauty' is small, deciduous tree with deep purple foliage. The pinkish flowers appear from Spring, in flat clusters and are followed by purple-black berries.
Height and spread: 4 x 4 m.
Aspect: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Light, moist but well-drained.
Flowering Season: Summer
Uses: Coastal, Cottage garden, Wildlife Gardens, Hedging and Screens
RHS Award of Garden Merit.
