Lonicera henryi, commonly known as Henry's honeysuckle, is a vigorous and twining woody vine that adds beauty and fragrance to the Irish landscape. Its long-lasting flowers and attractive foliage make it a popular choice for climbers.

Height/Spread: Henry's honeysuckle can reach a height of 6-10 meters (20-33 feet) and has a spread of about 1.5-2 meters (5-6.5 feet). Its vigorous growth habit allows it to cover trellises, fences, or arbors with its lush foliage.

Position: This vine thrives in a position that receives full or partial sun. It prefers a sheltered location that protects it from strong winds. It can tolerate a range of conditions but performs best when given a stable and moderate climate.

Soil: Lonicera henryi prefers well-draining soil that is fertile and moisture-retentive. It can adapt to various soil types, including loam, sandy, or clay soils. Adding organic matter to the soil before planting can enhance its growth and overall health.

Flowering Season: Henry's honeysuckle produces showy clusters of tubular, red-orange flowers from mid to late summer. These blooms attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, adding to the garden's biodiversity. After flowering, small black berries may develop, providing additional interest.

Uses: In the Irish climate, Lonicera henryi is often used as a climbing vine to cover walls, fences, or pergolas. Its vigorous growth and twining habit make it ideal for creating a lush green screen or adding vertical interest to a garden. The fragrant flowers are also cherished for their ability to perfume the air, making it a delightful addition to outdoor seating areas.

Overall, Lonicera henryi thrives in the Irish climate, as long as it is provided with proper growing conditions. With its impressive height, attractive flowers, and ability to withstand varying soil and light conditions, this vine can be a beautiful and versatile choice for adding vertical accents to the garden.
