Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey,' commonly known as Brown Turkey fig, is a popular fruit-bearing tree that thrives in the Irish climate. It is highly sought after for its delicious fruits and ornamental value, making it a valuable addition to any garden or orchard.

Height/Spread: Brown Turkey fig trees can reach a height of around 15-30 feet (4.5-9 meters) with a spread of about 15-25 feet (4.5-7.6 meters). It is a relatively large tree, so ensure ample space for its growth.

Position: This fig variety thrives in a sunny and sheltered position, making it well-suited for the Irish climate. It prefers a location that receives full sunlight throughout the day, ideally against a south-facing wall or in a protected area to maximize heat absorption.

Soil: Brown Turkey figs prefer well-draining soil that is fertile and rich in organic matter. They can tolerate a range of soil types, but it is beneficial to provide a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH. Ensure the soil is adequately prepared with organic amendments before planting.

Flowering Season: Brown Turkey figs produce small, inconspicuous flowers in early summer, followed by the development of sweet and juicy fruits. In the Irish climate, flowering typically occurs from late spring to early summer, with fruits ripening in late summer to early autumn.

Uses: Brown Turkey figs are primarily cultivated for their delectable fruits, which can be enjoyed fresh or used in various culinary applications. They are perfect for eating straight from the tree or incorporating into desserts, preserves, and jams. Additionally, the attractive foliage of the Brown Turkey fig tree adds ornamental value to gardens and landscapes in the Irish climate.
