Berberis thunb. Harlequin

Berberis thunb. Harlequin is a compact, deciduous barberry prized for its striking variegated foliage—deep purple leaves generously mottled pink and white. Small yellow flowers appear in late spring, followed by ornamental red berries for autumn interest. Tough and reliable, it does best in full sun for the strongest leaf colour but also copes with light shade, growing steadily into a dense, spiny mound around 1.5m high and wide—ideal for adding colour and structure to borders or for low hedging in any well-drained soil. Fully hardy.
