It thrives in a sheltered spot in sun or light shade, in moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil that is preferably slightly acidic. Well-suited to smaller gardens, courtyards and containers, it brings an elegant, architectural accent to planting schemes. In Irish conditions, protect young foliage from late spring frosts and cold, drying winds; mulch annually to conserve moisture and keep roots cool, and avoid very alkaline (chalky) soils or waterlogging.\u003c\/p\u003e\n  \u003cp style=\"margin-top:32px;margin-bottom:8px;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height.
