Best in sun or light shade with shelter from cold, drying winds, it thrives in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil that is neutral to acid, and is well suited to courtyards, Japanese-style planting and large containers. Maintain even moisture and mulch to keep roots cool; avoid shallow chalk soils and exposed sites.\u003c\/p\u003e\n  \u003cp\u003e\n    \u003cstrong\u003eThis is a standard tree with a clear stem and a shaped crown above.\u003c\/strong\u003e\n    The tree was grown up to this stem height and then pruned to stop the trunk growing taller.
